The global payments leader Visa continues expanding its presence across South Korea with another strategic alliance announced this week. The company has formalized a collaboration with Dunamu, the entity controlling Upbit, which stands as South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency trading platform.
The collaboration focuses on creating innovative financial payment solutions leveraging stablecoin technology and artificial intelligence capabilities. The companies will jointly investigate commercial applications centered on OUSD, a stablecoin designed around open standards.
Additionally, the partnership encompasses AI-driven payment systems and the development of infrastructure supporting agentic commerce. This technology enables autonomous AI systems to discover products and execute transactions without direct human intervention.
Dunamu’s Chief Executive Oh Kyung-seok highlighted the significance of emerging technologies. “AI, stablecoins and tokenization are key trends that will reshape how finance and commerce operate,” he stated.
Visa’s announcement represents its second substantial South Korean partnership within a matter of days. The company previously revealed a settlement infrastructure collaboration with Shinhan Financial Group, among South Korea’s premier financial institutions.
With approximately 16 million cryptocurrency users according to CoinGecko data, South Korea presents a compelling opportunity for payment infrastructure providers seeking market expansion.
Friday Trading Activity for Visa Shares
Visa stock commenced Friday’s session at $379.23, representing a 1.2% decline. Trading within a 52-week bandwidth of $293.89 to $385.57, the stock remains positioned close to its yearly peak.
Technical indicators show the 50-day moving average positioned at $357.99 while the 200-day moving average stands at $331.08. The payment processor commands a market capitalization of $676.72 billion with a price-to-earnings multiple of 32.25.
Visa’s latest quarterly results, disclosed on July 28th, showed earnings per share of $3.32, surpassing analyst expectations of $3.23. Total revenue reached $11.63 billion, marking a 14.4% year-over-year increase and exceeding the projected $11.40 billion.
Wall Street Outlook and Institutional Holdings
Wall Street analysts maintain an optimistic stance toward Visa. Piper Sandler assigns an “overweight” recommendation with a $430 price objective. Wells Fargo similarly rates the stock “overweight” targeting $432. UBS and Barclays each maintain “buy” or “overweight” ratings with $420 targets. Collectively, analysts project a consensus price target of $414.54.
Among institutional investors, North Star Asset Management established a fresh position valued at approximately $48.4 million during the second quarter. Additional firms such as G&S Capital and NerdWallet Wealth Partners expanded their existing Visa holdings throughout the quarter. Institutional ownership accounts for 82.15% of outstanding shares.
Chief Executive Ryan McInerney divested 5,875 shares on August 21st at an average transaction price of $367.87 through a predetermined Rule 10b5-1 trading arrangement. Company insiders collectively sold approximately $34.5 million worth of stock over the preceding 90-day period.
The company announced a quarterly dividend distribution of $0.67 per share, scheduled for September 1st payment, yielding 0.7% on an annualized basis.
