Micron (MU) Stock Gains Momentum Before Q4 Earnings: What Analysts Expect
Key Highlights
- Micron shares gained 3.1%, closing at $1,030.52 as fiscal Q4 earnings approach on September 30.
- Analysts project adjusted EPS to surge to $30.89 from $2.84 year-over-year; revenue estimated at $50.41 billion.
- UBS forecasts memory chip pricing to increase over 20% in Q3, with supply constraints expected through 2027.
- Wall Street’s consensus is “Buy” with a mean price target of $1,295.63.
- Company insiders offloaded approximately $182.2 million in shares during the past quarter.
Shares of Micron Technology (MU) advanced 3.1% to reach $1,030.52 during Wednesday morning trading on September 9, as market participants positioned themselves before the company’s upcoming fiscal fourth-quarter financial results scheduled for September 30.
The uptick occurred despite broader market weakness, with the S&P 500 declining 0.4%. Meanwhile, South Korean competitor SK Hynix saw its American depositary receipts climb 4.5%.
Financial analysts are anticipating a substantial year-over-year earnings increase. Projected adjusted earnings per share stand at $30.89, a significant leap from $2.84 during the comparable period last year. Revenue projections point to $50.41 billion, representing nearly a fivefold increase from the previous year’s figure.
Such substantial growth underscores the exceptional trajectory of memory chip pricing dynamics. UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri indicated Tuesday that average selling prices for memory chips should climb more than 20% in Q3 versus the prior quarter.
“We now expect both DRAM and NAND to continue to be undersupplied into 2027,” Arcuri noted.
DRAM accounts for approximately three-quarters of Micron’s total revenue and serves computers and AI systems by managing active data and processing functions. NAND technology provides long-term storage capabilities.
Strong Institutional Ownership Continues
Institutional shareholders control 80.84% of Micron stock. Denali Advisors LLC initiated a fresh position during Q2, acquiring 6,380 shares valued at roughly $7.4 million.
Multiple other institutional investors expanded their holdings throughout the quarter, with Bellevue Asset Management boosting its position by 25.5%, while Mowery and Schoenfeld Wealth Management enlarged its stake by 8.8%.
Analyst outlook remains predominantly positive. Among 38 analysts tracking the stock, the consensus recommendation is “Buy,” with a mean price objective of $1,295.63. Barclays maintains the highest street target at $2,000, while Wells Fargo elevated its target to $1,525 in June.
Micron’s previous quarterly results, disclosed June 24, significantly exceeded Wall Street forecasts. The semiconductor manufacturer reported $25.11 EPS versus the consensus estimate of $21.39, with revenue hitting $41.46 billion compared to expectations of $35.91 billion. Revenue jumped 345.8% on a year-over-year basis.
Notable Insider Transactions
Conversely, company insiders have been reducing positions. Insiders divested roughly $182.2 million in stock value during the last quarter. Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Mehrotra disposed of 40,000 shares on August 21 at an average execution price of $968.90, totaling $38.76 million. This transaction decreased his ownership percentage by 13.14%.
Board member Lynn A. Dugle similarly sold 1,300 shares in late June at $1,150.43 each.
Micron currently carries a market capitalization of $1.13 trillion, trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 22.65, and displays a PEG ratio of 0.64. The stock’s 52-week trading range extends from $131.56 to $1,255.00.
Management has provided Q4 EPS guidance ranging from $30.00 to $32.00. Analysts project full-year EPS at $72.93.
The September 30 earnings release represents a crucial milestone for the stock, as investors seek confirmation that contract pricing dynamics, high-bandwidth memory demand, and profit margins remain robust.
