Next Siri May Handle Multiple Requests in One Prompt

Apple is testing this feature as part of the operating systems it plans to release later this year, including iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, according to the report.

Currently, Siri can only respond to requests made one at a time, per the report.

Apple did not immediately reply to PYMNTS’ request for comment.

This feature is among several features reported to be planned for the upcoming version of Siri, which is said to be more like an AI agent. They have not been confirmed by Apple.

Apple said in a March 23 press release that it will share its advancements in artificial intelligence at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which the company will host online June 8-12.

“WWDC26 will spotlight incredible updates for Apple platforms, including AI advancements and exciting new software and development tools,” Apple said in the release.

Bloomberg reported March 24 that Apple plans to unveil the new Siri on the first day of WWDC, June 8, and that the updated voice assistant will be more like an AI agent and will interact in a conversational way through both text and voice. The updated Siri will be able to tap into messages, notes and emails and respond to requests; complete tasks within apps; access news content; and search the web.

It was reported Thursday (March 26) that Apple plans to include in the upcoming operating system a feature called Extensions that will allow other companies’ AI assistants to be accessed from within Siri, so users can choose which service to query. Apple already allows Siri to tap into OpenAI’s ChatGPT exclusively, but the reported change would let the voice assistant tap into other services as well.

The PYMNTS Intelligence report “GenAI and Voice Assistants: Adoption and Trust Across Generations“ found that the percentage of consumers who use voice assistants is stagnating, while generative AI is experiencing rapid growth across generations.

The report said that while voice assistant usage declines, there is hope that integrating Gen AI could revive the technology.
