Wednesday Market Recap: Dell (DELL) Soars 10% as MongoDB and Credo Tumble on Earnings
Key Takeaways
- Dell stock climbed 10% following a massive 58% revenue increase to $46.97B, powered by robust AI server sales
- GitLab shares rocketed 22% higher after surpassing Q2 projections with 21% revenue expansion and optimistic forecasts
- MongoDB plunged 15% even after exceeding estimates, as decelerating Atlas growth concerned market participants
- Credo Technology slipped 7% despite revenue doubling, with shrinking margins triggering investor concerns
- Market futures showed mixed signals Wednesday amid bond yield tracking and anticipation of Federal Reserve reports
Dell Technologies emerged as Wednesday’s standout performer in premarket action. The stock surged 10% following the company’s announcement of second-quarter revenue reaching $46.97B, representing a massive 58% year-over-year increase that exceeded analyst projections.
The standout performer within Dell’s portfolio was its Infrastructure Solutions Group. This division saw revenue skyrocket 89% to reach $31.78B, propelled by substantial demand for servers optimized for artificial intelligence workloads.
Dell management also boosted its annual revenue forecast by $25B to $192B, significantly surpassing the $173.3B Street consensus. AI server bookings reached an all-time high of $60.9B, while the company’s $95B backlog signals robust future demand.
GitLab Delivers Strong Performance
GitLab emerged as another Wednesday standout. The stock surged 22% following the DevOps platform’s announcement of Q2 revenue totaling $286.3M, marking a 21% year-over-year climb that surpassed expectations.
Net annual recurring revenue growth exceeded 40%, while dollar-based net retention reached 117%. These metrics helped alleviate concerns about competitive pressure from Microsoft’s GitHub platform and Cursor.
For Q3, GitLab provided revenue guidance of $281M-$283M, aligning closely with analyst estimates. Company leadership highlighted increasing demand as artificial intelligence tools accelerate software development activity.
MongoDB and Credo Declined on Margin Concerns
Wednesday proved that beating earnings doesn’t guarantee stock gains. MongoDB shares tumbled 15% despite the database provider reporting 30% revenue expansion and lifting its annual guidance.
Market participants zeroed in on decelerating growth within Atlas, the company’s multi-cloud database platform. Additionally, operating expenses jumped 12%, attributed to elevated AI and infrastructure investments, dampening investor enthusiasm.
MongoDB projected full-year revenue between $2.99B-$3.03B and adjusted earnings per share of $6.39-$6.58, both exceeding consensus estimates, yet the stock remained under pressure.
Credo Technology similarly declined, falling 7% even as first-quarter revenue more than doubled year-over-year to $479M. Adjusted earnings per share climbed from $0.52 to $1.20.
Credo’s challenge centered on profitability metrics. Gross margin contracted to 64.5% from 67.4% the prior year, while operating margin decreased to 25.2% from 27.2%. Market observers noted that forward guidance appeared conservative relative to recent quarters.
The company projected Q2 revenue of $525M-$535M, topping consensus forecasts, but simultaneously warned of persistent margin headwinds from escalating operating costs.
Palo Alto Networks dipped 1.7% despite delivering robust fourth-quarter results. Following a 97% rally through Tuesday’s close, traders opted to secure profits.
Equity futures displayed mixed movement Wednesday. Market participants monitored the Federal Reserve’s upcoming Beige Book release and critical economic indicators, while renewed U.S.-Iran military confrontations and climbing global bond yields tempered risk appetite.
Broadcom, Snowflake, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise are scheduled to announce earnings results following Wednesday’s market close.
