US Futures Decline as Tech Shares Lead Market Retreat

US futures are experiencing a downturn, continuing the decline observed on Monday. S&P 500 futures have decreased by 0.5%, while Nasdaq futures have fallen by 1.1%, with technology stocks driving the losses. This decline comes as investors prepare for significant earnings reports from major retailers later this week, following a lackluster retail sales number released on Friday.

The drop in tech shares is compounded by rising bond yields, with 10-year yields reaching 4.74% and 30-year yields climbing to 5.33%, the highest levels since 2007. This increase in yields is contributing to a cautious atmosphere in the equities market, particularly as geopolitical tensions, including ongoing US-Iran conflicts, add to investor anxiety.

In the tech sector, several prominent companies have seen notable declines in their stock prices. Sandisk has dropped by 5.7%, Western Digital by 5.2%, and Seagate by 4.5%. Other major players like Micron, Applied Materials, and Intel have also reported losses, while Microsoft and Apple have managed slight gains of 0.2% and 0.3%, respectively. The ongoing concerns regarding capital expenditures in the tech industry continue to weigh heavily on market sentiment.
