Three Crypto Stocks to Monitor This September: Coinbase (COIN), Circle, and Robinhood (HOOD)
Key Highlights
- Bitcoin’s recovery has reached approximately 30% from recent bottom levels, now challenging the $82,800 resistance zone
- Coinbase achieved an unprecedented 10.3% of global crypto trading volume market share during Q2
- Circle’s USDC stablecoin circulation expanded to $73.3 billion, representing a 19% annual increase
- Robinhood delivered all-time high Q2 revenue of $1.31 billion, marking a 32% yearly increase
- Circle is set to debut its Arc blockchain mainnet on September 16
The cryptocurrency sector has demonstrated renewed strength as September begins. Bitcoin’s value has climbed roughly 30% from its recent bottom and is now approaching the $80,000 threshold. A critical resistance level exists near $82,800, and Bitcoin’s ability to surpass this mark could determine the market’s direction in coming weeks.
Meanwhile, robust U.S. employment figures and climbing energy costs have intensified speculation about a potential Federal Reserve interest rate increase during its September 15-16 meeting. An imminent inflation report may serve as a significant trigger for both Bitcoin prices and cryptocurrency-related equities.
In this market landscape, three companies deserve particular attention: Coinbase, Circle, and Robinhood.
Coinbase
Coinbase operates as America’s leading cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume and continues to be a primary choice for investors seeking direct cryptocurrency market exposure.
During Q2, the platform secured an all-time high of 10.3% of worldwide crypto trading volume. This represented growth from 9.1% in Q1 and continued a three-quarter streak of expanding market share.
Additionally, Coinbase delivered its 14th consecutive quarter with positive adjusted EBITDA.
The company’s revenue structure has become more diversified beyond Bitcoin. Approximately 88% of net revenue currently originates from activities other than Bitcoin spot trading. Subscription and services segments generated $555 million in Q2.
Stablecoin engagement continues expanding. The average USDC balance held across Coinbase platforms reached an unprecedented $20 billion throughout the quarter.
Should Bitcoin successfully breach the $82,800 level, increased trading activity could drive additional momentum for Coinbase in upcoming months.
Circle
Circle employs a distinct strategy. Rather than running an exchange, the firm issues USDC, among the world’s leading dollar-pegged stablecoins.
USDC circulation climbed to $73.3 billion during Q2, reflecting a 19% increase from the previous year’s comparable period. On-chain transaction volume skyrocketed 151% to $14.8 trillion.
Circle generated $701 million in combined revenue and reserve income throughout the quarter. Adjusted EBITDA increased 8% to $143 million.
A significant company milestone approaches. Circle is scheduled to launch the public mainnet of its Arc blockchain on September 16. Arc focuses on stablecoin payments, programmable finance, and tokenized real-world assets. Over 100 institutional participants and ecosystem developers have already joined the initiative.
Circle faces primary challenges from intensifying stablecoin sector competition and vulnerability to interest rate fluctuations, given that reserve income constitutes a substantial portion of the company’s earnings model.
Robinhood
Robinhood provides the broadest business model among these three companies. Its platform encompasses equities, options, prediction markets, and cryptocurrency within a single ecosystem.
The platform achieved record-breaking revenue of $1.31 billion in Q2, representing a 32% annual increase. Diluted earnings per share advanced 48% to $0.62. Net deposits reached an unprecedented $21.7 billion while Robinhood Gold subscriber count increased 39% to 4.8 million.
Interestingly, crypto revenue declined 38% to $100 million during the quarter. However, total revenue still reached record levels due to expansion across other business segments.
Equity trading volumes surged 85% and event-contract volumes multiplied more than tenfold. This diversification allows Robinhood to thrive without depending on a crypto market rally, although such a rally would certainly provide additional benefits.
The short-term outlook for these three stocks remains closely tied to Bitcoin’s performance. A decisive breakthrough above $82,800, coupled with favorable inflation data, could propel crypto-related equities higher through September’s latter half.
