Nvidia (NVDA) Stock Earnings Preview: Wall Street’s Forecast for Q2 Results
Key Takeaways
- Wall Street projects Nvidia’s Q2 earnings at $2.09 per share with revenue hitting $92.3 billion, representing nearly 100% year-over-year growth
- The stock recovered Tuesday with a 2.19% gain, breaking its longest consecutive decline in over two years
- Data Center segment revenue projected to exceed $85.4 billion, marking 107% annual growth
- Historical pattern shows NVDA shares declining post-earnings on 6 of the past 8 quarterly reports, despite consistently exceeding estimates
- Major headwinds include potential slowdown in AI infrastructure spending, political resistance to data center expansion, and intensifying competition from custom chip development
The semiconductor giant is scheduled to unveil its fiscal second quarter financial performance Wednesday after market close, with the investment community closely monitoring the AI hardware frontrunner.
Wall Street consensus calls for adjusted earnings per share of $2.09 alongside revenue totaling $92.3 billion. These figures would mark approximately 96% annual revenue expansion.
Shares of NVDA finished Tuesday’s session at $213.05, gaining 2.19% and halting a seven-session decline—the company’s most prolonged losing stretch in more than two years.
Elevated Forecasts, Inconsistent Market Response
The chipmaker has surpassed analyst projections across core financial indicators for eight consecutive quarters. However, shares have dropped in the subsequent trading session on six of those reporting dates.
NVDA’s performance has lagged the broader S&P 500 index during the trailing twelve months, with shares declining roughly 1% over the most recent three-month period. The company’s forward price-to-earnings multiple trades below the S&P 500’s valuation, even with anticipated earnings per share expansion of 89% for the current fiscal year.
The Data Center division, representing Nvidia’s largest revenue contributor, is anticipated to generate $85.4 billion, reflecting 107% growth. Revenue from hyperscaler clients alone is forecast at $43.5 billion, while ACIE revenue is expected to reach $41.7 billion.
During the previous quarter, Nvidia restructured its financial reporting framework, dividing Data Center into distinct Hyperscalers/AI Clouds and Industrial and Enterprise categories. Revenue streams from personal computers, gaming, robotics, and automotive operations now appear under the newly created Edge Computing division.
Recent quarterly results from major cloud providers including Amazon, Microsoft, and Google provided some reassurance regarding returns on artificial intelligence infrastructure investments. However, guidance from Google and Meta concerning elevated capital expenditure plans triggered market volatility.
Critical Challenges Facing the Quarter
The four dominant hyperscale providers—Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Meta—are projected to deploy more than $700 billion toward AI data center infrastructure this year. Market participants are increasingly questioning the sustainability of such aggressive spending trajectories.
Growing political headwinds against data center construction have emerged as another concern. Polling conducted in July revealed 63% of probable 2026 midterm election voters oppose local data center development, a significant increase from 42% recorded in December.
Competitive pressures continue mounting. AMD alongside emerging semiconductor manufacturers are encroaching on Nvidia’s market position. Perhaps more significantly, the company’s largest clients are developing proprietary AI accelerators, diminishing their dependence on NVDA’s products.
Nvidia has responded by positioning itself as a capital partner in major infrastructure initiatives. The company is supporting a half-trillion dollar collaborative data center venture in Ohio involving SoftBank and OpenAI, and recently participated in establishing a $500 billion GPU securitization facility alongside BlackRock, Blackstone, KKR, Apollo, Brookfield, and Goldman Sachs.
Lease rates for Nvidia’s server infrastructure maintain robust levels and have continued appreciating despite increased market availability.
The company’s earnings release is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
