Jordan seeks PPP investors for first elevated motorway

Jordan is seeking investors for a project to build the country’s first elevated motorway in Amman.

The 16km Amman Toll Bridge is to be built along King Abdullah II Road in the capital. It will have four lanes – two for cars and two for buses.

The investment ministry said it would hold a meeting on Monday to present details of the public-private partnership (PPP) deal to potential investors.

“It is intended to reduce traffic congestion and travel time, while enhancing multi-modal transport integration,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry did not provide cost estimates, but said the PPP contract would cover design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance. It described the project as a “promising investment opportunity” for infrastructure investors.

The toll bridge is the latest major infrastructure project announced by Jordan as part of a development strategy stretching until 2035.

In December the government announced a 25-year plan to build a green city. Amra City will be built in central Jordan, 40km from Amman and 35km from Queen Alia airport.
