Iran Shuts Down Strait of Hormuz Again Amid Ongoing Tensions

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil transport, has been closed again by Iran's military after a brief reopening. This closure follows dissatisfaction from Tehran regarding the ongoing US naval blockade. US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about reaching a deal but also threatened to target Iran's civilian infrastructure if negotiations do not progress.

Despite the renewed tensions, market reactions have been relatively muted. Oil prices saw an increase, with Brent crude rising approximately 5% to near $95 and WTI crude also up over 5% to around $87.20. However, these gains have not been substantial, and the S&P 500 futures are only down by 0.4%, recovering from an earlier drop of over 1%.

Market sentiment appears to remain stable, with traders seemingly maintaining confidence that positive developments may still arise. This follows a recent history where Trump has positively influenced market sentiment, including a ceasefire announcement that briefly lifted spirits. As the deadline for the ceasefire approaches, the market's calmness suggests a belief that further good news may be forthcoming.
