Global Bond Yields Rise, Impacting Markets and Equities

Global financial markets are experiencing heightened tension as bond yields continue to rise, leading to a cautious atmosphere among traders and investors. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield reached 4.81%, marking its highest level since October 2023. This trend is mirrored in Europe, where Germany and France's 10-year yields have climbed to 3.37% and 4.24%, respectively, the highest since 2011 and 2008. The UK also saw its 10-year yield rise to 5.26%, the highest since 2008, while Japan's 10-year yield hit 3.02%, the highest since 1996.

As a result of these developments, major equity indices are under pressure. The S&P 500 futures are down 0.1%, following three consecutive days of declines. European stocks are also feeling the impact of rising yields, contributing to a nervous market sentiment. In the currency market, the USD/JPY pair corrected lower but remains skewed to the upside, while the euro and New Zealand dollar have also seen declines against the U.S. dollar.

In commodities, gold prices are struggling around the $4,300 mark, down 0.1%, while WTI crude oil has decreased by 0.8% to $89.44, despite a weekly gain of nearly 7%. The market remains on edge as participants assess the implications of ongoing bond yield increases and their potential effects on economic conditions.
