European Central Bank Increases Interest Rates Amid Rising Inflation Risks

The European Central Bank (ECB) has raised its deposit rate by 25 basis points, bringing it to 2.50%. This decision comes in response to heightened inflation pressures, particularly influenced by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The ECB has revised its inflation forecasts, now predicting an average of 3.0% for 2026, 2.5% for 2027, and 2.1% for 2028, with the latter two figures reflecting an upward adjustment. Additionally, growth forecasts have also been upgraded, indicating a more optimistic economic outlook.

Despite these changes, the ECB emphasized that future interest rate decisions will remain contingent on incoming economic data, highlighting a flexible approach without a predetermined trajectory.
