For most Americans, oil-fueled inflation shows up most quickly in their gas tanks. The big question is whether fuel prices will eventually start increasing prices for other goods and services.
UAE commits $46bn to deepen trade ties with Germany
The UAE has committed €40 billion ($46 billion) in new investments in Germany.
The announcement came during a meeting between UAE president Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and German chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on Thursday, according to a joint declaration.
The package focused on advanced digital infrastructure – including the development of new data centres with a capacity of about 1 gigawatt – industry, advanced technology and energy.
UAE and German companies also signed 29 business-to-business memoranda of understanding and agreements worth more than €9 billion, building on Adnoc-owned XRG’s €15 billion investment in chemicals company Covestro.
Bilateral non-oil trade between the two countries reached $15.5 billion in 2025, up more than 14 percent from 2024, while cumulative investment flows between the two countries exceeded $10 billion from 2021 to 2025.
The two leaders also focused on efforts to promote peace in the Middle East, strengthen regional security and stability and the progress of the UAE-EU comprehensive economic partnership agreement.
Almost 25 percent of the total investment will go to Bavaria in the south of Germany, but no details were provided.

Germany also agreed to additional traffic rights for UAE airline Emirates, allowing it to operate a regular service from Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport to Dubai, according to a report from Reuters.
The Dubai flag carrier, which currently flies to Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Hamburg, has been campaigning to operate in a fifth German city for over two decades.
Germany’s Chancellor Merz visited the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in February to build its energy and defence partnerships with the Gulf countries.
