Economic Data Releases and Fed Nomination Hearings Scheduled for April 20-24

The week of April 20-24 will feature significant economic data releases from several countries, starting with Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI) on Monday. This will be followed by New Zealand's inflation data on Tuesday, which is expected to show a quarterly increase of 0.8%, up from 0.6%. In the U.K., key indicators such as the claimant count change, average earnings index, and unemployment rate will be published, while the U.S. will report on ADP employment change, retail sales, and pending home sales. Additionally, Fed Chair-designate Kevin Warsh is set to testify before the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee as part of his nomination process.

On Wednesday, the U.K. will release its inflation data, with expectations for a rise in CPI year-on-year to 3.3% from 3.0%. The Bank of England is likely to remain cautious, monitoring labor market indicators alongside inflation trends. Thursday will see flash manufacturing and services PMI releases for Australia, the eurozone, the U.K., and the U.S., providing insights into economic activity across these regions.

Friday will conclude the week with retail sales data from the U.K. and Canada, as well as revised consumer sentiment and inflation expectations from the University of Michigan in the U.S. In Canada, CPI is anticipated to rise to around 2.5% year-on-year, driven by increased gasoline prices. Meanwhile, in the U.S., retail sales are expected to show a monthly increase of 1.4%, reflecting consumers' ability to absorb rising fuel costs, although the underlying demand may appear softer when adjusted for inflation.
