Bitcoin experienced a decline approaching 2% throughout a 24-hour period, slipping beneath the $77,000 level following the release of U.S. inflation metrics that revealed producer prices accelerating beyond analyst projections. The economic data prompted market participants to elevate their expectations for an imminent Federal Reserve interest rate adjustment at the central bank’s next policy gathering.

Data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicated the Producer Price Index advanced 5.4% on a year-over-year basis, marginally exceeding the consensus estimate of 5.3%. On a monthly comparison, producer prices climbed 0.4%, matching market forecasts. The core PPI measure increased 0.2% from the previous month, reversing a prior 0.3% contraction.
In response to the inflation release, the CME FedWatch tool reflected market participants assigning a 74% probability to a rate increase at the Federal Open Market Committee gathering scheduled for September 15-16, with expectations pointing toward a target range of 3.75% to 4.00%.
At press time, Bitcoin was changing hands near $77,300. Market observers at Bitget highlighted that $76,270 represents a crucial technical support threshold, with Bitcoin currently trading less than $800 above this critical level.
Widespread Cryptocurrency Selloff Intensifies
The CoinDesk 20 benchmark index declined approximately 3%, representing nearly double Bitcoin’s percentage loss. Ninety-five constituents within the CoinDesk 100 token universe concluded the trading period in negative territory.
Zcash emerged as the most significant decliner among prominent digital assets, tumbling roughly 12% to approximately $1,134. This pullback followed a robust recent rally that nevertheless keeps the token elevated by roughly 34% for the week and approaching 145% gains over the trailing 30-day period.
Hyperliquid’s HYPE token retreated about 7% to slightly below $79, expanding its weekly depreciation to approximately 10%. Dogecoin surrendered around 6%, settling at 8 cents.
XRP diminished roughly 3% to $1.34, accumulating a weekly loss approaching 7%. Solana descended more than 3%, penetrating below the psychologically significant $100 threshold. Ether demonstrated relative resilience compared to peers, declining just under 2% to trade around $2,445.
Tron stood as the sole major cryptocurrency maintaining stability, remaining unchanged at 34 cents while posting weekly gains exceeding 3%.
Interest Rate Anxiety Pressures ETFs and Traditional Markets
Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in the United States experienced $120 million in net redemptions on Wednesday, representing more than double the outflow volume recorded Tuesday. Meanwhile, investment vehicles linked to Ether, XRP, and Solana attracted capital inflows during the identical timeframe.
The S&P 500 benchmark concluded trading lower around 7,594, marking its fourth consecutive daily retreat. Equity index futures across Asian markets also weakened, with Japanese contracts declining nearly 2%, Korean futures falling more than 3%, and Hong Kong indicators dropping close to 1%.
The 30-year Treasury yield surged to a 19-year peak. The 10-year note yield approached the 5% threshold, while the two-year yield climbed above 4.5%.
Brent crude petroleum advanced beyond $107 per barrel, appreciating more than 6%, compounding concerns regarding the inflation trajectory.
Market attention now shifts to Friday’s Consumer Price Index publication, scheduled for release at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Consensus forecasts anticipate headline inflation at 3.4% annually with core inflation at 2.4%. The outcome could either intensify or alleviate downward pressure on cryptocurrency and equity markets in advance of the Federal Reserve policy determination.
