Anthropic Secures Massive $35B Cloud Agreement With Nvidia (NVDA)-Backed Lambda
Key Highlights
- Lambda, supported by Nvidia, has secured a massive $35 billion cloud infrastructure agreement with Anthropic
- Hut 8 is constructing a Texas facility in Nueces County where Nvidia will maintain the lease
- This partnership comes after Anthropic’s recent $45 billion Nscale arrangement and $50 billion Fluidstack contract
- Nvidia continues leveraging its capital to enable companies with lower credit ratings to utilize its advanced computing systems
- Lambda is currently pursuing additional funding of up to $3 billion, targeting a valuation exceeding $12 billion
In a strategic move to bolster its computing resources, Anthropic has entered into a substantial $35 billion cloud infrastructure partnership with Lambda, a cloud services firm with financial backing from Nvidia. This arrangement provides Anthropic with access to a cutting-edge facility under construction in Nueces County, Texas.
Hut 8, known for both bitcoin mining operations and data center development, is spearheading the construction of this facility. Through a distinct contractual arrangement, Nvidia has committed to securing the facility’s capacity and will maintain control over the lease.
The infrastructure deal positions Lambda to deploy Nvidia-manufactured processors within Hut 8’s Texas location. Nvidia also counts itself among Lambda’s investment partners. Financial terms regarding Lambda’s payment structure to Nvidia for facility access remain undisclosed at this time.
This partnership represents one component of Anthropic’s aggressive strategy to scale up its computational infrastructure. The artificial intelligence company encountered significant supply constraints earlier in the year as customer demand for its solutions accelerated.
Recent activity demonstrates the scope of Anthropic’s expansion efforts. Just weeks ago, Anthropic committed $45 billion toward leasing infrastructure from Nscale’s West Virginia operations. Additional agreements include a $50 billion commitment with Fluidstack and a separate $45 billion arrangement with SpaceX.
The Texas partnership illustrates a sophisticated multi-party structure. It highlights Nvidia’s evolving strategy of facilitating access to premium computing infrastructure for organizations without top-tier credit standings.
Last July, Nvidia unveiled an initiative providing credit assistance to cloud infrastructure providers such as Lambda, structured around revenue-sharing arrangements. While the program has seen temporary holds on certain transactions, it remains uncertain whether Lambda’s Texas facility operations fall under revenue-sharing obligations with Nvidia.
Hut 8’s Strategic Position
Beyond this agreement, Hut 8 is concurrently building separate facilities for Anthropic designed to accommodate Google’s tensor processing units—technology that directly competes with Nvidia hardware. Google has extended financial backing to support Hut 8’s debt financing for these alternative projects.
Documents from July revealed that Hut 8 had secured 15-year lease commitments from an unnamed “high-investment-grade company” for its complete 700-megawatt Texas campus. While the tenant remained confidential initially, the company confirmed the $20 billion development would accommodate Nvidia processor technology.
Lambda’s trajectory shows remarkable momentum. Following a funding injection exceeding $1.5 billion in November of last year, the company forged a collaboration with Microsoft to roll out AI computing systems featuring tens of thousands of Nvidia chips.
Current negotiations position Lambda to secure an additional $3 billion in capital, potentially establishing a company valuation of $12 billion or beyond.
Representatives from Anthropic declined to provide statements regarding the partnership. Nvidia, Lambda, and Hut 8 have not issued responses to inquiries about the arrangement.
The Texas infrastructure agreement underscores Anthropic’s accelerated efforts to secure substantial computing resources essential for supporting its Claude AI platform and related offerings.
