Abbott Laboratories to Challenge $70 Million NEC Damages Award

An Illinois court has awarded a total of $70 million in damages related to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) cases involving infant formula. Last week, the court granted $53 million to four families affected by the condition, followed by an additional $17 million awarded on April 10.

Abbott Laboratories, the manufacturer of the infant formula in question, has announced plans to contest the damages awarded in this legal case. The company is facing scrutiny over its products in relation to NEC, a serious gastrointestinal condition that primarily affects premature infants.
